iNaturalist's mission is to connect people to nature and advance biodiversity science and conservation. Our goal is to build a global community of 100 million naturalists by 2030. iNaturalist is a joint initiative of the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society. iNaturalist staff are employees of the former, and our work is independently focused on improving and operating iNaturalist.

Our current team of 8 full-time staff are passionate about nature, technology, and solving challenges to keep iNaturalist on track as it continues to grow. We work remotely and use tools like Slack, Github and video calls in US Pacific and/or Eastern time zones to coordinate our work. We try to all meet up in person and in nature at least once a year.
